The Wide Range of Marketing Materials

Over the past few months I’ve been to multiple Mass Inno events, as well as many Tweet Ups, The Big Tweet and other events.

Like most attendees, I’ve left these events with a wide range of marketing materials.  From high end glossy brochures to technical data/spec sheets to photocopied fliers on a copier running out of toner.

I wonder: did some of these companies think about their “giveaway” materials as much as they thought about their business cards, presentations and “elevator pitches.”  Or was their leave behind left behind during planning.

It’s easy to think a good piece of collateral is beyond the budget of the start-up, the bootstrapped business, or the solo practitioner.  But that’s wrong.

Just as there’s a range of Web site development options (hire a firm, use WordPress), there are a range of options for collateral.

So, if you can’t do that expensive glossy, consider:

  • a pithy flier, on colored paper, with a call to action;
  • a one-pager describing your company/product/service.  Think less text, not more, and again, your call to action;
  • a tri-fold or other small piece, with some graphics and next steps.

These are just some quick thoughts.  With strong writing, Photoshop and Staples, even the smallest start-up can present great leave behinds.

Afterall, if an event like Mass Inno is your introduction to the world, don’t you want to be remembered?
